The world famous Tony Horne In The Morning Radio Show originally aired on GWR FM and ran from August 1993 until July 2011. You will most likely have heard it across the Northwest of England on 105.4 Century FM (2001-2004) and in the North East on Metro Radio (1996-2000, 2004-11).
In 1990 I was named Runner Up in the UK Radio Academy’s Young Broadcaster of the 90s competition. 21 years later I won my next award – a Silver at the Sony Radio Awards for my Great North Run coverage.
Within a year of working for UTV, owners of Talksport and the new national digital multiplex in the UK, the THRS was named Show Of The Year 2012.
This may have something to do with the fact that I give a toss about trophies – look at the quotes or ask anyone who has worked with me and I only care about three things – ratings, ratings, and ratings.
The great Wogan only ever beat me in final RAJAR.
The Tony Horne in the Morning Show stood firmly at Number One in the North East when the show came to an end and in its re-invention as the Tony Horne Radio Show has been the rock on which UTV has re-built their stations in the North West since February 2011, achieving record audience figures in May 2015.
In June 2015, I signed for Mercury FM in Spain.
I am a freelance broadcaster, who occasionally consults on breakfast shows. The Tony Horne Radio Show is now contracted to UTV until June 2017.
Thanks for stopping by.
